Best Practice in Health Promotion

Noarlunga Towards a Safe Community is an intersectorial community based injury prevention program which is being undertaken in the City of Onkaparinga in South Australia. The program strives to address all forms of injury, intentional and non-intentional, through the use of a cooperative regional approach.

The public sector, local government, the private sector, voluntary groups and community members are working together to increase safety and reduce the human, social and economic costs associated with injury. Noarlunga Towards a Safe Community's mission is: 'Increase the safety of the city and its residents at home, in the workplace and in public places including recreation and on the roads by increasing the safety of environments, and increasing the use of safe practices and behaviours'. From modest beginnings twelve years ago, the project has developed to an internationally recognised model as a member of the WHO Safe Communities Network.
