Onkaparinga Physical Activity Project

Latest statistics indicate hospital admissions related to cardio-vascular disease in the City of Onkaparinga are higher when compared to the state average.

Preliminary research has also highlighted the link between ongoing physical activity and improved health, and that participation in physical activity provides a range of benefits at an overall community level.

Armed with these facts staff from the Noarlunga  Health Services approached the National Heart Foundation to cooperatively develop a project that would aim to improve the health of individuals through physical activity while improving the overall community environment.

After successfully securing a grant from the Department of Human Services following the appointment of a project officer the main objective is now to establish a network of walking and cycling trails that are permanent, safe, environmentally pleasing, easily accessible and clearly posted.

The City of Onkaparinga, Southern Division of General Practice and the Land Management Corporation are also partners in the project.
