Health and Safety for Young People in Rural Areas - Final Report

Identification of risk factors is essential in planning injury prevention programs. Whilst the farming community and rural networks provide a framework for rural injury prevention, very little to date has been actually undertaken in directing specific health and safety programs towards the needs of young people.

This health and safety focus is seen as being relevant and effective as it is closely linked to local priorities and has the support of the Willunga High School, local Wine Makers’ Association, representatives of the Grape growers, the local community and the health sector. Resources have been developed and desk-top published for inclusion within the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) Stage 1 Vocational Education Training (VET) Program. Feedback to this unique health and safety resource indicates that the material is of great value in the delivery of health and safety programs within the VET curriculum. This is especially relevant to those vocational courses in rural settings.

The report has been produced as a web site and can be found at http://www.softcon.com.au/rural/
