Anne Russell - Student Counsellor, Seaford 6-12 School

Keep Safe Stay Cool has run in our school now for a number of years.   All of our Year 10 students take part in a series of three sessions with the Peer Educators as part of their Transition program, which is compulsory at Years 10 and 11.  We feel that the KSSC program is very valuable and successful at our school.   It raises the students’ and teachers’ awareness of relationship issues and gives them strategies for resolving concerns and difficulties without having to resort to violence.  It also gives them sources of support when they have domestic violence issues already.

The peer education format is particularly successful as the students respect the knowledge and values of young people who are not preaching at them, but who are at a similar stage in their lives.   We intend to continue our involvement and are about to take part in some longer term evaluation of the program and its effectiveness with our students.”

Teacher's Feedback

Teachers are always present when Peer Educators present to classes. We ask for their written feedback as well as the students. The teachers often give us ideas for improving future sessions. Teachers from various schools have written:

“There were a range of issues and levels within these issues discussed. I think the information would have relevance across the class.”

“The presenters did an excellent job relating to the students.”

“I thought it was very well organised. A good blend of listening/talking.”

“It was very informative and enjoyable, great presenters.”
