During 1999 the ED will be undergoing a redevelopment
process. This will involve expansion of the current department to include
additional examination cubicles, remodelling of Triage and refurbishment of the
waiting room area.
In particular an area will be set aside for paediatric patients including a
play room, separate waiting areas and examination cubicles.
The redesign of the clinical area will improve significantly the
ability to observe and treat patients whilst meeting issues of privacy.
Particular attention is being paid to the involvement of consumers in the design
and refurbishment of the expanded department. Planned completion date is
December 1999. The redevelopment represents part of a wider $40 million upgrade
of hospital facilities at the Lyell McEwin planned to be completed over the next
4 years.
