To enhance
community awareness of the role of the Emergency Department.

Awareness of the Emergency Department – A Consumer’s Perspective project
was raised within the local community through a combination of newsletters,
publicity and local media support.
Promotion strategies used throughout the project included:

 | In conjunction with Shopfront, the development of an information
flyer for young people to increase awareness of the role of the ED and
to provide project feedback. |
 | Regular project updates in the internal ED Newsletter. |
 | Articles about the ED and the project in local support group
newsletters eg. Northern Carers Network. |
 | Feature article in the local Messenger press. |

Future initiatives for the promotion of the project will include:
 | The raising of community awareness of the ED through the local
press, community radio, local Members newsletter and articles in
Salisbury and Playford local council community papers. |
 | The installation of a community display board within the ED waiting
room. The display board will feature information about the ED and
injury prevention and health promotion material. |
 | Provision of information leaflets about the ED for distribution to
the local community through councils, community health service
providers, general practitioners and other venues for health
promotion. (See Appendix II) |

The proposed development of the primary school student’s video,
teacher’s guide and student activities folder. |
 | The presentation of the report on the World Wide Web. |
 | The launch of the final project report and initiatives developed
during the course of the project. |
