Feedback from participants using self-completed questionnaires showed strong support for the ED focus groups. Of the 39 participants, 14 returned completed questionnaires and indicated that the focus group sessions were useful and informative.

Comments included:

bulletThe information was unbelievable probably due to the fact that so much of the feedback we get is very negative.
bulletSession useful in that it is nice to know the end result of data collection and aims of the project.
bulletVery useful.
bulletPositive feedback is such a rare occurrence that it is great when you get it.
bulletVery interesting to realise needs not being met are very different from what I perceived.
bulletIt reflected your preparation and familiarity with the subject matter – well done Kath

Ten participants stated that the session had provided them with new information in regard to community use of the Emergency Department.

Comments included:

bulletNew information that waiting times are not the main complaint of clients was a surprise seeing that it occurs verbally daily.
bulletTotally surprised that lengthy waiting times were not a major issue with groups.
bulletI knew communication was a problem but didn’t know some of the other problems.
bulletThe need to provide more information – especially for patients from non-English speaking backgrounds.
bulletThese groups within the community may have an altered perspective to the general public.
bulletIt was interesting to see what the community perceives as important issues.
